Abstract

The current grading system used in many schools is provided by the Department of Education in its policy and guidelines in classrooms on DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015. DepEd provided spreadsheet templates; the users can input records and the system will automatically compute the grades. The use of this spreadsheet requires proficiency with spreadsheet applications such as Excel. Hence, the teachers who are not computer literate have problems when operating it. The project team approached this problem by using the systems development life cycle. In the planning/analysis stage, the team conducted data gathering and analyzed it regarding the features that would address the problem. In the design stage, the team created different diagrams, layouts, and concept designs of the system. The system was then created by the programmer in the development stage. After the application was created, it is unit tested, integration tested, load tested, and user acceptance tested. The implementation is to be handled in the form of parallel conversion. The new system should be used together with the old system. The system will be maintained by the project team whenthe system malfunctions and the school require their assistance. The computerized grading system is provided as a front-end application that handles the data input of the users and exports the data into the spreadsheet template. The system features security, ease of accessibility, and data input integrity. The login system featured three attempts only, that is, it locks accounts after three incorrect inputs in specific fields. The system also featured a next button, which allows the user to flip through students and sections with ease. The system also provided an interface that separates student records from other records to avoid incorrect data input. In conclusion, the system provided the necessary features for the old system, which is the spreadsheet template. This system increased the speed of recording. The increased security ensured the data security inside the system and complied with the data privacy of the students. The use of the spreadsheet application was removed and replaced by the application, but it was used separately. Future researchers, developers, and project teams should increase the security of the system. Concept designs that are easy for the users to operate will greatly help the faculty in storing their records.
