Disadvantages of being Unaware about Plagiarism among Grade 12 Performing Arts Students of Bestlink College of the Philippines: Basis for Proposed Guidelines

Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own without their consent by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgment and owning it as your original work. Many of today’s generation is not fully oriented to what the disadvantages of being unaware of plagiarism are. Quantitative research was used as the research design for the study. The study utilized purposive sampling to select 50 Grade 12 Performing Arts students as respondents to answer the questionnaire assessing the disadvantages of being unaware of plagiarism among students. The results of the study showed that the assessment of the disadvantages of being unaware of plagiarism in the following variables: academic performance, self-confidence, and skills and talents. With the weighted mean of 4.00 for male respondents and 4.06 for female respondents, both groups strongly agreed that the lack of awareness of plagiarism affects the students’ development in terms of academic performance. With the weighted mean of 4.08 for male respondents and 4.05 for female respondents, both groups strongly agreed that the lack of awareness of plagiarism affects the students’ development in terms of self-confidence. With the weighted mean of 3.62 for male respondents and 3.66 for female respondents, both groups strongly agreed that the lack of awareness regarding plagiarism affects the students’ development in terms of skills and talents. The results of the study showed that the disadvantages of being unaware of plagiarism are highly visible as assessed by 50 Grade 12 Performing Arts students in terms of academic performance, self-confidence, and skills and talents. Therefore, the difference between the assessments of the two groups of respondents is not significant.
