Level of Effectiveness of Practical Arts Activities in Academic Achievements of Grade 12 Performing Arts Students at Bestlink College of the Philippines: An Assessment

Abstract

Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination by producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. Practical Arts activities are the actual doing of tasks rather than discussions of theories and ideas that are related to arts. It is usually done by Performing Arts students since they are taking a strand that is connected to arts. The objective of this research was to improve the teacher’s strategies for the exploitation of Practical Arts activities to enrich the talents of Performing arts students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. This research used quantitative research based on numeric figures or numbers and descriptive methods to describe the characteristics of a phenomenon of the population being studied. Survey questionnaires were administered to 50Grade 12 Performing Arts students who were selected through purposive sampling where every student has an equal chance to be chosen as a sample. The survey questionnaire was constructed to determine the levelof effectiveness of Practical Arts activities in the academic achievements of Performing Arts students in terms of academic performance, talents and skills, and experience of the students. The respondents strongly agreed in terms of academic performance, talents and skills, and experience. The weighted mean for male and female respondents were 4.07 and 4.38, respectively, both of which strongly agreed that Practical Arts activities are effective in improving academic performance. Male and female respondents strongly agreed that Practical Arts activities are effective in improving the talents and skills, with the weighted means of 4.15 and 4.31, respectively. Male and female respondents had the weighted means of 4.25 and 4.16, respectively, both of which strongly agreed that Practical Arts activities are effective in improving the experience. Based on the findings of the study and the conclusions that were drawn, the following recommendations were forwarded: students should participate in activities related to arts, students should explore to learn more, students should be motivated and productive, teachers should create activities that are related to arts, students should be engaged and attached to their best talents, students should grow their talent first before discovering something new, teachers should motivate their students, and teachers should help their students to broaden their knowledge and skills.
