Importance of Homework Activities in Academic Performance of Grade 12 General Academic Strand Students at Bestlink College of the Philippines

Abstract

One of the problems of the students is homework activities, which are supposedly done inside the classroom but due to lack of time, it turned to homework. The researchers conducted this study to know the importance of homework to the academic performance of students. Quantitative-descriptive research was used to describe the characteristics of a population or phenomenon being studied. We used purposive sampling to choose 50 Grade 12 General Academic Strand students to assess the importance of homework in the academic performance of the students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. The results of this study showed that male General Academic Strand students were more dedicated than female students, with the composite weighted mean of 3.36 and verbal interpretation of strongly agree. Female general academic Strand students had the composite weighted mean of 3.49, with the verbal interpretation of strongly agree. In terms of the cognitive aspect, male respondents had the weighted mean of 3.30, with the verbal interpretation of agree, while female respondents had the weighted mean of 3.1, with the verbal interpretation of agree. In terms of the affective aspect, female respondents had the weighted mean of 3.6, with the verbal interpretation of strongly agree, while male respondents had the weighted mean of 3.54, with the verbal interpretation of strongly agree. In terms of the psychomotor aspect, male respondents had the weighted mean of 3. 84, with the verbal interpretation of strongly agree, while female respondents had the weighted mean of 3.70, with the verbal interpretation of strongly agree. Based on the findings of the study and the conclusion drawn, the following recommendations were forwarded. The steps required to implement the policy and the resources needed should be specified. The benefits of recognition and what problem would be corrected or avoided should be discussed. The proposed policy and general statement should be discussed. Some reference materials, such as books, online resources, etc., should be used. Students must give attention to the study. Students should also manage their time to do their homework. Students should also take notes of topics to help them recognize or remember the topic. Students should also listen carefully to the lesson or teacher who discusses how to do homework easily. The students should also ask their teachers if they do not understand the lesson.
