Abstract

Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) has surfaced as an intriguing phenomenon, attracting attention for its possible use as a relaxation aid. Defined by tingling feelings elicited by certain auditory or visual cues, ASMR has seen a rise in popularity online and generated scientific curiosity. This investigates the expanding body of research concerning ASMR's efficacy in promoting relaxation and alleviating stress. By analyzing the fundamental processes and various triggers linked to ASMR, this paper seeks to enhance the comprehension of its therapeutic capabilities. Such insights offer promise for guiding relaxation methods, mental health strategies, and improving overall well-being. This study is carried out to determine whether there is a significant difference in the impact of ASMR as a means of relaxation for students. The sample for this research comprises 15 fourth-year psychology students from Bestlink College of the Philippines. Through the methodology of stratified sampling, 15 students were chosen to take part in this research. The main instrument employed in this study is a survey questionnaire along with noise-canceling headphones. This research examined the effects of Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) on relaxation and information retention, utilizing a quasi-experimental research design with a quantitative approach. Participants filled out a survey questionnaire both prior to and after listening to ASMR sounds through noise-canceling headphones. The findings showed that participants somewhat agreed that ASMR sounds facilitate relaxation and assist in information retention (mean = 3. 66, rank 1. 5). Moreover, ASMR was identified to somewhat enhance mood, support mental health (mean = 3. 60, rank 2. 5), and offer immediate enjoyment as well as help with memorization (mean = 3. 53, rank 3. 5). In addition, ASMR was regarded as somewhat beneficial in soothing the mind and body (mean = 3. 40, rank 4) and improving overall wellness (mean = 3. 33, rank 5). Ultimately, ASMR was considered somewhat effective in alleviating anxiety associated with academic deadlines (mean = 3. 20, rank 6). Based on these results, the null hypothesis was dismissed, indicating that ASMR has a notable effect as a relaxation aid, resulting in reduced stress levels. This study implies that ASMR could serve as an advantageous resource for fostering relaxation and enhancing information retention in learning environments.
