Abstract

This study examines the living experiences of children in conflict with the law (CICL) at Bahay Pag-Asa, Valenzuela City, highlighting a critical aspect of the Philippine juvenile justice system. It aims to explore their backgrounds, experiences, and the effectiveness of rehabilitation efforts. Various factors contribute to their involvement in criminal activities, making it essential to understand their needs and challenges. The researchers utilized survey questionnaires and employed purposive sampling techniques to gather data. The study involved fifty (50) respondents, consisting of twenty-five (25) social workers from Bahay Pag-Asa and twenty-five (25) parents of CICL. This approach ensured a comprehensive understanding of the children's rehabilitation experiences. Findings indicate that respondents strongly agree on the significance of counseling, skill development, spiritual growth, emotional and psychological well-being, and moral development in the rehabilitation process. However, establishing trust and rapport with CICL remains a major challenge due to their past experiences of distrust and trauma. Addressing these concerns is crucial to enhancing rehabilitation efforts. This study identifies key challenges and proposes measures to improve the rehabilitation of CICL at Bahay Pag-Asa, Valenzuela City. Recognizing their unique needs and fostering a supportive environment through empathy, patience, and understanding can strengthen relationships and aid in their successful reintegration. The researchers recommend developing strategies to address the difficulties encountered in rehabilitating CICL.
