This study aims to determine and explore the root causes of carnapping in Novaliches, Quezon City. In the Philippines, vehicles serve as essential modes of transportation due to their accessibility and adaptability amidst deficiencies in public transport systems. Their widespread use also supports informal economic activity and small-scale enterprises. However, the increasing incidence of carnapping presents a growing security concern. This research investigates the underlying socio-economic, environmental, and systemic factors that contribute to carnapping incidents in the locality. The study is anchored in a comprehensive framework that includes a review of related literature, theoretical and conceptual models, a statement of the problem, and the scope and limitations of the study. The study utilized a descriptive research design and employed purposive sampling to gather data from key informants, including police officers, barangay officials, and residents of Novaliches, Quezon City. Survey questionnaires were distributed and retrieved personally by the researchers. The instrument was validated to ensure reliability, and appropriate statistical tools were applied for data analysis. A mixed-methods approach was used to obtain both quantitative data and qualitative insights, offering a holistic understanding of the issue. Data gathered through the survey were analyzed and presented in tables, accompanied by interpretation and discussion. Respondent profiles and perceptions highlighted multiple contributing factors to carnapping, including economic hardship, lack of street surveillance, vehicle security negligence, and limited law enforcement visibility. The integration of qualitative responses provided deeper insights into situational and behavioral patterns associated with the commission of the crime. The findings served as a basis for proposing actionable community and law enforcement strategies to reduce the risk of carnapping. The study emphasizes the complex interplay between socio-economic conditions, community awareness, and law enforcement practices in relation to carnapping. It recommends the implementation of targeted crime prevention programs, enhancement of surveillance systems, public awareness campaigns, and stronger collaboration between local authorities and residents. These recommendations aim to address the root causes and reduce the incidence of carnapping in Novaliches.
