Abstract

In the Philippines, the Bureau of Correction has undertaken rehabilitation programs that focus
on providing services that will encourage and enhance the inmate’s self-respect, self-
confidence, dignity, and sense of responsibility. These programs help an inmate be
responsible and have a productive life upon release and ensure a balance between the
security of the prison and the effectiveness of treatment prograMs. The inmates at Caloocan
City Jail use their earnings to support various personal needs and income-generating
activities. They are encouraged to engage in livelihood programs, particularly in handicrafts,
for them to have an additional source of income. The inmates are also given value formation
and moral-building activities through the emotional and religious program, which helps them
realize what they have gone through and prepares them to become better individuals and re-
born members of society.


The result of the summary Satisfaction Rate on Rehabilitation Program for Person Deprived of
Liberty in Caloocan City Jail obtained the composite weighted mean of 3.46 as Strongly Agree
in response in Livelihood program, the majority of respondents believe they can provide for
their families even if they are imprisoned, followed by 3.58 as Strongly Agree in response in
Caloocan City Jail in terms in Educational Program, PDL is having a positive influence, more
confident in socializing with others and has better self-esteem. Lastly, Spiritual Program got
3.71 as Strongly Agree in dealing with guilt, finding motivation, direction, peace of mind, and a
sense of purpose in life. Persons deprived of liberty have an experience that allows them to be
productive while in custody. When it comes to PDL visits, the BJMP Caloocan City Jail faces
resistant visitors since the value statement for respondents has a weighted mean of 3.16 with
serious value interpretation.


The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology should come up with more programs to
encourage the Persons Deprived of Liberty. In conducting a Rehabilitation program, it should
be professional, performing equal and fair treatment. Provide human rights, Assessing the risk
and needs of each Persons Deprived of Liberty. Balance the time distribute per rehabilitation
program.
