Abstract

A classroom is a place where the students are taught. Therefore, classrooms are needed to be presentable and have a good ambiance that is conducive to learning. Students complain about the common problems in their classroom such as dirty walls and lack of trash bins that would separate biodegradable, nonbiodegradable, and recyclable materials. Recycling is a good process that reuses materials to avoid causing waste. This study was conducted to address this issue and help them with the cleanliness of their rooms. This study used a descriptive research design because based on the observation of the classroom environment, cleanliness affects the academic performance of the students. This study used the survey method because it is much easier to use in gathering data from the respondents. A total of 50 respondents were chosen randomly from Grade 12 Accountancy, Business, and Management students from sections 10 to 18 in Bestlink College of the Philippines. The result of the study showed that the classroom physical environment had a positive effect on the academic performance of the students because they can focus on studying. The discussions and activities, as well as the classroom environment, were improved through the proper segregation of their trash. Based on the results of the study, improving the classrooms’ physical environment will motivate the students to attend class and be motivated enough to participate in classroom discussions and activities. Students can also have or obtain a good result on their written works because more time is being given to them to answer or do the given tasks because of having a clean classroom. Students can review inside the classroom because of the improved classroom; they can concentrate more on answering their written exams. The results of the study revealed that improving the classroom physical environment will affect the academic performance of the students. Repainting the classroom should be done to give the students a better study environment, and additional trash bins should be provided to discipline the students about proper segregations of plastics and recyclable materials.
