Abstract

Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction is a subject where the students learn various things about disasters and hazard to prevent or reduce casualties. Emergency preparedness is important for everyone because this can save lives. This study aims to find the impact of learning disaster readiness and risk reduction on the protection of the students. Quantitative research was used as the research design for the study with the descriptive method. This study used purposive sampling to select 50 Grade 12 General Academic Strand students to assess the impacts of learning disaster readiness and risk reduction on their protection. Based on the summary, the weighted means of male and female respondents were 4.1 and 3.9, respectively, both of which strongly agreed that preparing for emergency response has an impact on learning disaster readiness and risk reduction on their protection. The weighted means for male and female respondents were both 3.9, both of which strongly agreed that training and awareness have impacts on learning disaster readiness and risk reduction on their protection. The weighted means for male and female respondents were 3.9 and 3.7, respectively, both of which strongly agreed that disaster prevention has an impact on learning disaster readiness and risk reduction on their protection. The overall weighted means for male and female respondents were 4.0 and 3.8, respectively, both of which strongly agreed that preparing for emergency response, training and awareness, and disaster prevention have the impacts of learning disaster readiness and risk reduction on their protection. Based on the findings of the study and the conclusion drawn, the following action plan was forwarded. To prepare for emergency response, knowing safety and security, students should familiarize themselves with a safe evacuation plan, gain knowledge about rescuing a person in danger, and create a training action plan. For training and awareness, the students should be trained and evaluated to assess training needs and implement training initiatives. Meanwhile, for disaster prevention, mitigation, and improvement strategies, nonhazardous and hazardous materials should be separated, and a mutual aid scheme should be created. This statement will help the students to be aware of a disaster.
