This study examines public perceptions of police legitimacy, focusing on key factors such as organizational justice, ethical policing, officer behavior, and fair decision-making. It underscores the importance of understanding these perceptions in order to enhance police-community relations and improve the effectiveness of law enforcement. Police legitimacy refers to the extent to which the public views the police as a rightful and trustworthy authority, deserving of compliance and cooperation. The respondents of this study included community residents of Barangay Talipapa, Quezon City, as well as barangay personnel and police officers from Station 3. The researchers employed purposive sampling to determine the appropriate number and type of respondents for the study. A survey questionnaire served as the primary data collection instrument, designed to assess public perception of police legitimacy in Barangay Talipapa. To ensure clarity and eliminate any vague or confusing items, the questionnaire underwent validation by the research adviser. Respondents were provided with an answer sheet containing the survey questions, which was collected after completion. Most of the respondents were male, aged 30 to 35, with a length of residency or service ranging from 11 to 20 years. The respondents' assessment of police legitimacy in Barangay Talipapa, Quezon City—specifically in terms of organizational justice, ethical policing, behavior, and fair decision-making—was interpreted as “Strongly Agree.” The most commonly encountered issue regarding police legitimacy was the lack of manpower to patrol various areas within the community. To address this concern, it is recommended to increase police presence by deploying more personnel to patrol different areas. This measure aims to enhance public safety, deter criminal activity, and ensure faster emergency response. It is recommended that the community actively engage in open dialogue with police officers to foster mutual trust and understanding. Organizing community forums and town hall meetings can provide a platform to discuss policing practices, address public concerns, and promote transparency. To earn the trust and cooperation of the community, law enforcement must focus on building genuine and consistent relationships with community members.
