Abstract

Crime reduction refers to the systematic efforts and strategies implemented to decrease the incidence of criminal activities within a community or society. Reducing crime among youth is a multifaceted endeavor that requires a combination of community engagement, empowerment programs, policy interventions, and supportive environments. By fostering collaboration among various stakeholders and addressing the developmental needs of youth, communities can create sustainable strategies that not only reduce crime but also promote positive youth development. This research employed a descriptive quantitative design, chosen because it effectively captures the socio-economic status, personality, and identity of the respondents, ensuring valid and reliable results. The study involved fifty (50) youth community residents, selected through a simple random sampling technique. Data were gathered using a survey questionnaire, which provided insights for analysis. Prior to data collection, the researcher submitted a letter of permission to the management. Upon approval, the researcher approached the respondents to guide them in completing the survey while maintaining confidentiality. Finally, recommendations were made to address the respondents’ concerns regarding awareness of fire safety implementation in commercial establishments. The respondents’ assessment of the impact of youth programs on crime reduction in Barangay Novaliches, Quezon City, indicates strong agreement across several areas. The overall weighted mean rating for sports and recreation is 3.476, interpreted as strongly agree. For the livelihood program, the overall weighted mean rating is 3.54, also interpreted as strongly agree. Similarly, the psychological development program received an overall weighted mean rating of 3.528, which is likewise interpreted as strongly agree. The study revealed that the respondents “strongly agree” with the assessment of the impact of youth programs on crime reduction in Barangay Novaliches, Quezon City. Sports and recreation activities play a significant role in keeping young individuals engaged in productive pursuits, thereby reducing their likelihood of engaging in criminal behavior. Similarly, livelihood programs are regarded as highly beneficial for providing youth with opportunities for skill development and employment, which helps deter involvement in crime. Additionally, psychological development programs are perceived as effective in promoting emotional well-being and personal growth.
