Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the fire safety measures in Barangay Tandang Sora, Maco, with a focus on community awareness and the implementation of safety protocols. Fire safety is essential to ensuring public welfare, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and effective emergency response. The study explored how well residents are informed and equipped to handle fire-related incidents, as well as their perceptions of the existing fire safety procedures within the barangay. This study utilized a non-experimental descriptive research design and employed survey questionnaires as the primary tool for data collection. A total of 50 respondents were selected through simple random sampling, representing various sectors involved in fire safety such as collaborative initiatives, community participation, and logistical support from both National Government Units (NGUs) and Local Government Units (LGUs). This approach allowed the researchers to effectively assess the respondents' awareness, perceptions, and evaluations of the existing fire safety measures and the challenges faced within Barangay Tandang Sora. The findings indicated a high level of fire safety measures in Barangay Tandang Sora. Respondents generally agreed that community safety protocols and fire safety awareness were well implemented. Both fire volunteers and civilian participants strongly affirmed that firefighters were sufficiently trained to address logistical challenges during fire incidents. However, the study also identified several areas for improvement, including inadequate communication between fire volunteers and barangay officials during emergencies and low community participation in fire drills. The majority of respondents were female, primarily within the 31 to 40 age range. Notably, the statement “Recognizes and respects the contributions and needs of each individual” received a low weighted mean, highlighting the need to strengthen inclusivity and ensure that all members of the community feel valued and involved in fire safety initiatives. While respondents expressed strong agreement regarding the effectiveness of current fire safety training and awareness efforts, the study also revealed areas for improvement. Issues such as poor communication and low participation in fire drills point to the need for more structured and inclusive fire preparedness strategies. A common recommendation among respondents was the regular conduct of fire safety drills to minimize risks and safeguard both civilians and firefighters. These findings informed the development of an action plan aimed at addressing communication gaps, enhancing community engagement, and strengthening logistical readiness during fire emergencies.
