The digital age has touched almost all aspects of our lives, more so during the pandemic when
even ordering food is done online through apps and using an e-payment system. It is now
impossible to do the majority of transactions, whether it is with banks, schools, the
government, or even merchants, without the use of any digital device or having an online
account. With people doing more transactions online, it is inevitable for fraudsters and
scammers to also do their thing "hunting" online, finding their next prey among the millions of
citizens who use the internet for various purposes on a daily basis.
The respondents were described as 21-25 years old, male, 10,000 and below family monthly
income, middle class, single, and catholic. The frequent online frauds experienced by the
respondents where they need to pay a fee or buy a product in order to collect the prize,
received notification of a lottery win or a competition win but were informed, and contacted by
someone pretending to be from a legitimate organization, and ask to provide (or confirm)
personal information. Online fraud victims are assessed as "often" experienced in terms of
verification of documents, illegal online applications, numerous access, and safety and
security.
There are proposed guidelines that can be proposed to properly implement the Cybercrime
Prevention Act of 2012 to decrease the number of online fraud victims in Novaliches, Quezon
City. The respondents should be aware of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, particularly
the students/ young adults, on how they are dealing with the law mentioned and the process of
contacting the authority (refer to guidelines proposed in Chapter 3, 4.8)
