Abstract

This research is carried out to investigate the effects of unauthorized tricycle motor vehicle operations on public transportation in Barangay Ugong Valenzuela City. The objective of this study is to understand the intricacies related to colored vehicles in public transport, assess the consequences for safety and regulation, and propose potential remedies to address this ongoing issue. This research employed a descriptive research approach and a purposive sampling method. This research includes three groups of respondents consisting of (50) commuters, (30) drivers, and (20) traffic enforcers from Barangay Ugong Valenzuela City. The primary tool utilized for data collection was a survey questionnaire. According to the data collected, the researchers conclude that fifty percent of the respondents are male, aged between 26 and 33 years, and fifty percent of the respondents are married. From this outcome, it was indicated that the vast majority of participants “Strongly Agree” that the influence of the colorum motor vehicles transportation system in Barangay Ugong, Valenzuela City was evaluated through the colorum vehicle issue which has a weighted mean of 3. 60 interpreted as Strongly Agree, the traffic problem issue has a weighted mean of 3. 52 interpreted as Strongly Agree, passenger safety has 3. 62 interpreted as Strongly Agree, and the quality of service has a weighted mean of 3. 58 interpreted as Strongly Agree. It was determined that the measures implemented by the government in response to the rising number of colorum vehicles include imposing fines and penalties on colorum operators and drivers found violating regulations, the risks associated with using colorum vehicles, and the subsequent deployment of law enforcement officers to monitor areas recognized for colorum vehicle operations. The barangay and law enforcement ought to undertake more frequent inspections and monitoring with the assistance of traffic enforcers and inform commuters about the safety hazards associated with riding in a colorum vehicle. Additionally, passengers should refrain from using colorum vehicles and opt for registered public transportation to ensure their own safety. A suggested action to reduce the rising number of colorum vehicles in the barangay is for the barangay to engage in monitoring and evaluating operators, which can aid in identifying and tackling illegal activities, conducting regular inspections of operators to guarantee adherence to regulations, and educating the public about the risks of riding in a colorum vehicle while promoting the use of only registered services.
