Gadget snatching, a prevalent form of street crime, has become more common in urban areas. In the past, this crime was a major issue, with sidewalks often occupied by vendors selling stolen gadgets. According to a police report by Cortes (2023), Francis Pangilinan stated, “The incidents of gadget snatching in the country have reached an alarming level. This crime impacts both the middle and lower classes, and what started as simple snatching has tragically claimed many innocent lives.” The study will employ a Descriptive and Correlational research design to examine the impact of gadget snatching incidents on the residents of Phase 1, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. The descriptive design will outline the residents' thoughts, emotions, and actions related to the issue of snatching. Meanwhile, the correlational design will explore the relationships between various factors, such as the residents' sense of safety, emotional well-being, and perceptions of crime, to understand how these variables are connected and how they collectively affect the community in response to the prevalence of gadget snatching. Regarding the Psychological Effects, respondents strongly agreed that victims of gadget snatching experience trauma and often develop a sense of distrust in others after their gadget is stolen. In terms of Physical Effects, respondents strongly agreed that victims may experience headaches and body stiffness as a result of the incident. Concerning Financial Loss/Economic Harm, respondents strongly agreed that victims often incur significant costs to repair physical damage and may lose income, especially if the gadget is vital for their work or freelance activities. To reduce the occurrence of snatching incidents, it is advisable to respond with caution by either shouting loudly or creating a scene to prevent physical confrontation. Acknowledge and accept your feelings, as it is natural to experience anxiety, anger, and fear following such an event. Residents should be encouraged to look out for one another by reporting any suspicious behavior and monitoring vulnerable neighbors. It is also important to develop a strategy for victims to cope with flashbacks or PTSD, such as identifying a safe space to regain composure. Maintain vigilance and awareness of your surroundings while in public. Additionally, consider increasing penalties for the sale or possession of stolen property. Public education on snatching prevention techniques and the significance of reporting crimes is essential. Residents should be urged to use their devices responsibly, particularly by refraining from using them while walking alone at night or in dimly lit areas.
