Abstract

Crime remains a significant issue that affects communities worldwide, and its roots are often deeply intertwined with various socio-economic factors. In urban areas such as Novaliches, Quezon City, the prevalence of crime is influenced by a complex interplay of socio-economic conditions, including poverty, education, unemployment, and the overall quality of life. Barangay Tawid Sapa, like many other communities, faces challenges related to socio-economic inequality, which may contribute to the rising incidents of criminal activities in the area.  Socio-economic status (SES), which encompasses factors such as income, educational attainment, employment, and living conditions, plays a critical role in shaping the behavior of individuals within a society. Research has shown that lower socio-economic status can increase vulnerability to criminal behavior, as individuals may resort to illegal activities as a means of survival or to cope with the pressures of poverty. However, it is important to examine how these factors specifically influence crime rates within the context of Barangay Tawid Sapa, where local challenges may differ from broader national trends.  This study aims to investigate the effect of socio-economic status on the likelihood of committing crimes in Barangay Tawid Sapa, Novaliches. By analyzing the socio-economic backgrounds of residents and their involvement in criminal activities, the research seeks to identify patterns and correlations that can inform more effective crime prevention strategies. Understanding how socio-economic factors influence criminal behavior will be crucial in addressing the root causes of crime and fostering a safer, more prosperous community in Barangay Tawid Sapa. This study utilizes a quantitative research approach to investigate the effect of socio-economic status (SES) on the likelihood of committing crimes in Barangay Tawid Sapa, Novaliches, Quezon City. The following research methods were employed: The results of this study are based on the analysis of the survey responses and interview data collected from 100 respondents in Barangay Tawid Sapa, Novaliches, Quezon City. The findings aim to determine the relationship between socio-economic status (SES) and the likelihood of committing crimes within the community. The findings of this study highlight the significant relationship between socio-economic status (SES) and the likelihood of committing crimes in Barangay Tawid Sapa, Novaliches, Quezon City. The data collected from both the survey and interviews provided a comprehensive picture of how various socio-economic factors influence criminal behavior within the community.
