Abstract

Fire safety is a critical concern for communities nationwide, as fire incidents can lead to loss of life, property damage, and environmental destruction. This study examines the fire safety programs implemented by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Batasan Hills, Quezon City. Key programs include the Fire Safety Review Program, which promotes fire prevention awareness; the Fire Prevention Program, which educates the public on safety measures through structured implementation plans; the Fire Response Program, which trains individuals on emergency response and evacuation procedures; and the Fire Suppression Program, which emphasizes fire control tactics, including the use of automatic suppression systems like sprinklers. This study employed a descriptive research design to assess the awareness and perceptions of respondents regarding the effectiveness of fire safety programs. Data were gathered using a survey questionnaire, focusing on respondents' sociodemographic profiles (age, sex, and civil status) and their evaluation of BFP programs. The study utilized statistical analysis to assess the respondents' level of awareness and engagement with these initiatives. Findings indicate that a majority of respondents strongly agree that BFP programs significantly influence community awareness and preparedness. The results suggest that these initiatives are well-received and contribute to improved fire safety knowledge and response strategies among residents. Based on the results, the study highlights the need for stronger communication and collaboration between fire officers and barangay officials to ensure a more efficient emergency response. Greater participation in fire safety training and seminars is recommended for both officials and residents to enhance preparedness. Community involvement is essential in improving response accuracy and efficiency, particularly through coordinated efforts between barangay officials and fire officers. Criminology students are encouraged to take an active role in community-based projects where they can apply their knowledge and skills in fire safety. Educators should consider integrating fire safety discussions, including the Safe Spaces Act, into criminology curricula to enhance student awareness. Future research should explore fire safety programs in different locations and contexts to further assess their effectiveness and impact.
