THE EFFECT OF MEDIA VIOLENCE TO JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AT BARANGAY 177 IN CALOOCAN CITY

Media has been thought to be significantly contributing to Juvenile Delinquency. The lawless behavior seen among the juveniles is attributed to materials or content from the twentieth century that is recognized as the beginning and prevalence of mass media. The researchers employed a sample of ten (10) Police officers and twenty (20) barangay officials who have experience in dealing with cases associated with juvenile delinquency; the third group consisted of thirty (30) residents in Barangay 177 Caloocan City. The researchers applied purposive sampling technique to choose the study respondents. The researchers sent a request letter to carry out a study on the management of barangay 177 and Sub-Station 10. Upon receiving approval for the request, the researchers delivered the survey questionnaire in person for the respondents to complete. The respondents were also given instructions on how to correctly fill out the survey questionnaire. Once the survey questionnaire was completed, it was gathered by the researcher for computation, analysis, and interpretation. Based on the outcomes and discoveries, participants notably concurred with the idea that underage individuals might encounter or partake in the transmission of damaging and aggressive messages, in addition to the belief that being exposed to media violence can desensitize young people to violent behaviors. These influences can significantly affect mental and emotional health. In addressing the urgent concern of social media violence impacting young people, this research explores suggested strategies intended to lessen its effects, reliant on the findings, involving educational institutions, community groups, and local authorities in focused initiatives emerged as the most broadly supported method, with 93 percent of participants backing this approach. This research offers suggestions based on a thorough evaluation of results and conclusions related to the effects of social media violence on young people. The significance of parental oversight and guidance is highlighted. Urging parents to participate actively in their children’s online interactions, supplying materials for education about social media violence, and fostering conversations between parents and children about online material are crucial measures in protecting adolescent health.
