The Spaniards had a significant influence on the Philippines for almost three centuries, sharing their culture, traditions, and religion. This influence led to the patriarchal system that still exists today, where women are limited to household chores. Filipino women have historically been excluded from public life, denied education and employment, and subjected to violence and discrimination. Recent statistics show that a quarter of Filipino women have experienced violence and assault from their partners, and thousands of cases violating the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act have been reported. This research aims to uncover the status of the implementation of the Safe Spaces Act and society's perception of it. Researchers employed a sampling technique and descriptive research design with quantitative methods, engaging fifty (50) barangay officials and three hundred forty-seven (347) residents from Barangay. Participants were approached and requested permission to partake in the study, which involved completing a questionnaire. Once consent was obtained, researchers provided the questionnaire, allowing respondents to answer at their own pace. Upon completion, researchers collected the survey questionnaires from the participants. In the survey conducted among residents and officials of Barangay 186, North Caloocan City, perceptions regarding the Safe Spaces Act were assessed, revealing intriguing results. A notable majority of respondents expressed strong agreement with the extent of the implementation of the Act in fostering safer environments within their community. Specifically, 75% of barangay officials strongly agreed that the Act has contributed positively to creating safer spaces, while 70% of residents held a similar perspective. Despite these positive sentiments, the survey also unveiled a significant challenge faced by the respondents. In order to promote environments free from discrimination, harassment, and violence, this study recommended that barangay officials need to be knowledgeable and trained to handle cases, and the residents should actively engage in barangay seminars so they are aware of the Safe Spaces Act. However, as highlighted by the challenges identified, there are notable areas where improvements are needed. This discussion will delve into these challenges and propose recommendations to address the problems encountered by the residents of Barangay 186, North Caloocan City.
