Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the sustainable tourism practices implemented at Rizal Park, a renowned historical and cultural landmark in the Philippines. Also known as Luneta Park, it is a significant urban green space located in Ermita, Manila. The research focuses on assessing existing sustainability efforts while identifying key challenges such as inadequate infrastructure development and the high cost of food and souvenir items. By addressing these concerns, the study seeks to contribute to the development of a comprehensive Sustainable Tourism Development Plan that balances environmental conservation with enhanced visitor satisfaction and cultural preservation. Data collection was conducted through on-site observations and the distribution of visitor surveys, aimed at gaining insights into the experiences, satisfaction levels, and perceptions of individuals visiting Rizal Park. The study identified several key issues that need to be addressed to enhance sustainable tourism at Rizal Park. One major concern is the need for improved infrastructure to elevate the overall visitor experience while ensuring environmental sustainability. This includes constructing modern visitor facilities, upgrading pathways and lighting, adding more public restrooms, and enhancing the park’s aesthetics without compromising its historical value. Another notable concern is the high cost of food and souvenirs within the park, which may deter local visitors. The study highlights how pricing affects accessibility and recommends measures to make tourism more affordable, while still supporting the income of local vendors. The Sustainable Tourism Development Plan seeks to enhance the long-term viability of Rizal Park by upgrading infrastructure, incorporating environmentally friendly technologies, and addressing the issue of high prices for food and souvenirs. The plan also proposes a business expansion model that emphasizes eco-conscious practices, improved facilities, and fair pricing mechanisms. Collaboration with private enterprises, local government units, and non-governmental organizations is essential to effectively address these challenges. Through the implementation of these strategies, Rizal Park can become a more appealing and sustainable tourist destination, minimize environmental impact while ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy its cultural and historical significance. This initiative also positions Rizal Park as a benchmark for sustainable tourism development both locally and internationally.
