A COMMUNITY BASED – FIRE PREVENTION PROGRAM FOCUS IN BARANGAY FOREST HILL SUBDIVISION NOVALICHES QUEZON CITY: AN ASSESMENT

Abstract

This study on fire prevention focuses on the practices and measures taken to reduce the risk of fire and minimize its impact. It involves identifying potential fire hazards, implementing safety protocols, and educating individuals on how to prevent fires. One key element of fire prevention is fire safety education, which teaches people about fire risks, safe practices, and appropriate responses in the event of a fire. This study will examine the effectiveness of the Community-Based Fire Prevention Program focused on Barangay Forest Hill Subdivision in Novaliches, Quezon City. The participants will be divided into three groups, comprising a total of fifty (50) respondents: ten (10) firefighters, thirty (30) residents, and ten (10) barangay officials. The researchers will ensure that all respondents are capable of competently and adequately completing the questionnaire and providing the necessary information for the study. A convenience sampling technique will be employed for participant selection. Community-based fire prevention programs face several challenges that hinder their effectiveness in reducing residential fire incidents. One of the most significant issues is the lack of community participation, as many residents do not actively engage in fire prevention efforts due to limited awareness, interest, or trust in such programs. Without active involvement, critical initiatives such as fire safety training, emergency preparedness drills, and hazard identification, become less effective, thereby increasing the risk of fire-related disasters. Furthermore, limited financial resources and personnel present additional obstacles, making it difficult to carry out essential preventive measures like regular fire drills, public education campaigns, and the distribution of fire safety equipment. Without sufficient funding and manpower, these efforts remain inadequate and less impactful. Active community participation is essential to the success of fire prevention programs, as it raises awareness and understanding of critical fire safety measures. Residents are encouraged to take part in fire drills, safety training sessions, and emergency response initiatives to ensure preparedness in the event of a fire. Increased awareness and engagement will help reduce the occurrence of fire-related incidents and contribute to a safer and more resilient living environment.
