Abstract

Molding one’s character through values formation is a huge challenge for educators. The influence of social media and media causes diversification in the characteristics and behavior of the students on how they see and understand themselves. Teachers nowadays must also adapt to this diversification without neglecting the duties to continuously impose good moral and right conduct inside the classroom. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of including values education in classroom discussion to improve the moral development of the senior high school students in terms of the moral awareness and development of students. It also aimed to assess the culture, diversity, and modern technology affecting the moral development of the students. This study was beneficial for the teachers encountering challenges in improving the moral development of their students. This study utilized a quasi-experimental design wherein two groups were chosen as the respondents of the study. One Grade 12 Accountancy, Business, and Managementsection was assigned as the control group, and another section was assigned as the experimental group. The inclusion of values education in classroom discussion was undertaken in the experimental group, while it was not included in the control group. Based on the results of the study, the teacher respondents were challenged in the inclusion of values education because of the different cultural backgrounds of the students in terms ofreligion, race, and social status. They also faced challenges, including values education to the experimental group of students due to their diversities suchas self-acceptance, self-understanding, and self-realization. The modernization of technology was also one of the factors that challenged the teacher respondents in the inclusion of values education inside the classroom. Based on the summary of the study, regardless of the culture, diversity, and modern technologies, the inclusion of values education in the classroom discussions can improve the moral awareness and development of the students if teachers will include the fear and love of God inevery student. The researchers highly recommended teachers attend seminars and training on values education. Teachers must also have knowledge and understanding of the Word of God before sharing and explaining its importance to students in terms of moral living.
