Abstract

In this study, the researchers discuss the influence of academic behavior. The researchers chose this study because most of students are now having a problem with their academic behavior, and it can affect their grades. It also aims to assess the effectiveness of the study group in improving the academic behavior of the students and address the factors affecting their academic behavior in the class. This study used the survey method because it is the most useful and applicable research method in the descriptive research design. The respondents of this study were 50 selected grade 12 Accountancy, Business, and Management students in sections 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8. Respondents were identified using convenience sampling. Based on the result of the study, the factors such as peer pressure, social media, and family improve the academic behavior in terms of (1) attitude (peer group, family, and social media affected the behavior of the students toward their academic performances; it may negatively influence them in their studies, especially if not properly guided and monitored by parents), (2) time management (most of the time of the students is spent with peers and social media, thereby affecting their academic standing and behavior to perform actively in the class, and (3) confidence (social media, peer group, and family built and destroyed the confidence of the students). Hence, this is why parents should properly guide their children in choosing peer groups and spending time using social media. The researchers recommended that students need to be more effective when they have activities to avoid negative peer groups and excessive engagement in using social media sites. The teachers need to be role models to their students; they should not be permitted to use mobile phones during classes, except when it is truly necessary. The school is the most responsible to give the students a comfortable and good service to students.
