Abstract

This research introduced the academic stress of the students and how they will avoid it using controlling management functions. Academic stress is a stressor that someone experienced through academics because of pressure, nervousness, overthinking, high expectation, etc. The students are the most prone to this stress because they do many school works, they experience academic pressure, and they have many performances and activities in school. The importance of this study was to teach students what academic stress is, what are the causes or sources, what will be the effect of this stress on students, and how to lessen or avoid academic stress. The researchers used descriptive research design and survey method. The respondents of this study were Grade 12 Accountancy, Business, and Management students that were selected through the convenience sampling technique. Based on the results of the study, applying the controlling management function effectively helped grade 12 students to address the factors causing academic stress in terms of (1) performance tasks (the students created effective strategies how to manage their time in preparing for performing tasks such as group and individual presentation to lessen academic stress by controlling management function), (2) written works (the students prepared ahead on their written works, such as assignments, projects, seatworks, and quizzes in different subjects), and 3) quarterly assessment (the students effectively prepared and managed their task especially when preparing for quarterly assessment, such as exams, chapter tests, and long tests. The researchers recommended that students should manage their academic tasks to perform their performance tasks, written works, and quarterly assessments well. The teachers should help their students to meet and comply with the set deadline for the submissions of written works and other performances tasks. Parents should also support their children by helping them accomplish their academic tasks on time.
