Abstract

Time management helps students in their daily activities in school or at home. Students divide their time into different activities. Time attitude, lack of priorities, and family problem are their challenges in managing their time. This study aims to help Grade 12 Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) Strand students to effectively improve their academic time management. The use of the application of the Eisenhower matrix or urgent-important matrix helps the students to decide what to prioritize in their task listed by urgency and importance up to the least. The researchers used a quasi-experimental design and used a survey method to identify the significant difference in terms of time management of male and female students and the pretesting versus post testing results after using the Eisenhower matrix in plotting academic tasks and other activities of the students. A total of 25 males and 25 females were taken as respondents from sections 1–9 by using quota sampling. Based on the results of the study, using the Eisenhower Matrix effectively improves the time management of male and female grade 12 ABM students in terms of (1) attitude (develop a good attitude toward time management), (2) priorities (improve priorities in academic activities), and (3) family (learn to balance academic time and family time). In the presented data, no differences were observed in the time management of male and female students, but the difference in the results of students’ respondents in the pretest and post-test of both groups of respondents was significant. The results showed that students had difficulty in managing their activities, while the post-test results showed their improvement after using the Eisenhower matrix. Before using the Eisenhower matrix, male and female respondents agreed that the variables attitude, priorities, and family affected their time management. Based on the results of the study, the researchers recommended that the students, teachers, school administrations, and future researchers should know the importance of time management and how the Eisenhower matrix helps to improve their time management skills. They can also use the phone application of E-matrix, which is easier and convenient to use anytime and anywhere. Time management is extremely challenging but can be practiced and developed in the long run.
