Abstract

Parent involvement is a combination of the commitment and active participation of the parent to the school and student. Many problems are associated with involvement. Many secondary schools do not know how to deal with a nontraditional family and the areas of concern that it represents. Parents feel unwelcomed at school, lack knowledge and education, and may not feel that education is important. The number of solutions that can be used to improve parental involvement is substantial. The focus of this study is to determine the impact of parent involvement in the academic performance of selected Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) Strand students in Bestlink College of the Philippines. The researchers used descriptive design to describe the characteristics of a population or phenomenon being studied. The researcher used a systematic sampling technique, where every 5th of the class is a part of the study, that is, 100 respondents are successfully chosen. The researcher also utilized a survey questionnaire to gather information and ideas easily. The data gathered from the questionnaire served as the primary data. The researchers found out that parent involvement had a positive impact on the academic performance of Grade 12 HUMSS Strand students in the aspects of financial support, moral support, and spiritual support answered by 100 students. The impact of these variables in attaining higher grades, determining, and motivating the student to perform in the class. Parents always guide, check, and support their children no matter what happens. Students are advised to be open up to their parents and do not hesitate to buy their necessities. Most parents consider themselves to have good communication with their child’s teachers and the school. Children’s homework is considered to be important by each parent, and they all assist their children with homework. Thus, by staying involved with their children’s education, parents affect the academic achievement of the students positively.
