Abstract

This study focuses on the factors that affect the preferred courses in college of Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) Strandstudents at Bestlink College of the Philippines. Choosing a college course/degree is one of the most challenging decisions for students. Grade12 students may be decided or undecided enough to choose the course that suits their abilities and skills. However, some factors such as family, friends, and financial aspects may affect the choices of the students in choosing a program in college. The researchers used the descriptive method. It is a simple way to know more about the people who take the study. The researchers administered survey questionnaires to gather information about the implication of the factors that affect the preferred courses of Grade 12 HUMSS Strandstudents in college at Bestlink College of the Philippines. The questionnaire helped gather the idea easily. The researchers used a random sampling technique to conduct the survey questionnaire and included 90 respondents. The researchers performed the survey inside the Bestlink College of the Philippines. According to the conducted survey, Grade 12 students greatly considered the financial aspect in choosing preferred courses with the average weighted mean of 3.16, which was interpreted as agreed by the students. Meanwhile, the positive effect can mostly affect the financial aspect with 3.58, which was interpreted as agreed. The second factor affecting choosing the course was the influence of their friends, with the weighted mean of 3.51, which was interpreted as agreed. The family aspect was the least considered factor in choosing their courses, with a weighted mean of 3.29, which was interpreted as undecided. The researchers found out that the financial aspect was the top problem faced by the students in choosing their preferred courses in college because some affordable courses suit the abilities and skills of the students. However, students also want some expensive courses because those courses are suitable for their skills, but they cannot afford the tuition fee. The researchers suggest that when choosing a course, the students should choose one that suits their passion.
