Abstract

English pronunciation and spelling were irregular; hence, written English was standardized at a time when the pronunciation was changing and evolving. Thus, words with the same spelling ended up having different sounds based on the most common way of pronouncing them. Many English learners, especially Grade 11 students, have problems pronouncing words correctly. Pronunciation is the way how words should sound when spoken by a person. The students of spoken English language or any other spoken Language face problems regarding pronunciation. The researchers used the descriptive method as a research design. The instruments used for this research were convenient sampling, survey, and questionnaire to gather data. The researchers read and applied various related literature and studies from local and foreign researchers. The final draft was validated by the research teacher. The researchers requested the permission of the principal and the research headteacher to research the school. The researchers used a weighted mean to ensure the validity and reliability of the results. The results of this study showed that improving their English pronunciation help students improve their speaking skills by using recording words with the correct pronunciation to improve pronunciation containing many words with meaning and instructions on how to pronounce it. Students must help themselves to learn how to speak and read English. The study revealed that improving English pronunciation by using recordings enhanced the students’ English-speaking abilities through listening exercises to improve pronunciation. This activity will help the students in recognizing whether their pronunciation is correct; determining how to improve their speaking skills; and learning the right stress, tone, and rhythm of the word because they do not have enough knowledge about the spoken language. Recording words with the correct pronunciation will help students develop their fluency, improve their pronunciation, extend their vocabulary, deal with everyday situations in English correctly, and understand and use informal or idiomatic English. Improving English pronunciation will help students by encouraging themselves.
