Effectiveness of Do-It-Yourself Vacuum Cleaner to Minimize Dust Problem at Bestlink College of the Philippines, S.Y. 2019–2020

Abstract

The research focused on the effectiveness of making a do-it-yourself (DIY) vacuum cleaner to minimize dust problems. The study revealed the effectiveness of minimizing the dust problem in Bestlink College of the Philippines. However, although there are many laws in this country, the enforcement of RA 8749 has been spotty this is most evident in Metro Manila and other urban centers, where vehicles particularly jeepneys, buses, trucks, and motorcycles emit black smoke. Dust is an accumulation of small particles that include bits of cloth fiber, paper, hair, pet dander, skin cells, dirt, etc. Excessive dust can lead to some health problems; hence, it should be kept under control. This DIY vacuum cleaner can collect dust from the floor and help students to become focused on their studies without being bothered with the ashy color of dust that is attached to their clothes and shoes, which may give them an unpleasing look. The overall purpose of this study was to lessen the dust in rooms, save electricity, recycle plastic bottles, and save money by using cheap and recyclable materials. A qualitative method was used in this study by using a descriptive research design. This qualitative design action plan is more subjective, and the findings are gathered in a written format. This study involved 50 randomly selected students from Accountancy, Business, and Management(ABM) Strand. Three variables, such as the cleanliness of the classroom, students’ health, and students’ well-being, were considered regarding the effectiveness of making a DIY vacuum cleaner to minimize dust problems. In minimizing the dust problem in the rooms of ABM students, students and janitors are the most beneficiaries in implementing the DIY vacuum cleaner. The results of our study showed that the students agree that if the classroom looks neat and refreshing, it can give them a positive aura; it also prevents the spreading of germs because of the dusty surrounding. Students will also find ease in cleaning the room, and the teachers will be more comfortable teaching. A clean classroom is conducive to learning, which contributes to the well-being of the students. It also helps students to think. The results of the study revealed that dusty surroundings have an impact on the performance of the students mostly because of the unclean and uncomfortable classroom. The study also showed that students and janitors benefit the most from the study.
