Abstract

The research was focused on the perception of Grade 12 Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) Strand students about the decomposition of food waste by using compost piles that will lessen the food waste in the environment. The study showed the important aspects of the compost pile to Grade 12 ABM students of Bestlink College of the Philippines. The importance of this topic to the environment is that food wastes give nutrients to the soil and plants. Decomposition also prevents air pollution. This topic is also important to the animals because it prevents animal death due to eating food waste unintentionally. The objectives of this research include preventing flooding, decreasing excess trash in the food court, and making fertilizer for the plant. This study aimed to accelerate the process of decomposition of food waste and produce qualify fertilizer products and give nutrients to the soil and plants. The purpose of the study was to prevent animal death. The researchers used the descriptive method and qualitative research. It was concerned with 50 selected respondents from Grade 12 ABM students. Eight variables were considered to determine the perception of Grade 12 ABM students about the decomposition of food waste by using a compost pile. These variables include students’ and teachers’ health, school environment condition, students, teachers, utilities, community, animals, and environment. Having different diseases and having a bad odor are some of the factors that can affect the improper decomposition of food waste. Meanwhile, students can learn how to decompose food waste properly. The study revealed that the proper decomposition of food waste had a considerable impact on the environment because of its good benefits. The study discovered that every student has prior knowledge about the process of decomposition of food waste by using compost piles.
