Eco Green Residential Apartment: An Eco-Friendly Residential Apartment in Bagumbong, Caloocan City

Abstract

Throughout the year, many new residential establishments were built in answer to the rapid population growth in the Philippines. The residential establishment includes individual houses, apartments, and hotels. With the increase in the number of establishments built, energy consumption also increases. One of the problems in the Philippines is the power crisis where most parts of Metro Manila are having a shortage of power or electricity, thereby resulting in power interruptions and brown-outs. To resolve this problem, the ECO Green Apartment will use renewable energy produced by natural sunlight as an alternative to electricity produced by traditional coal power plants. The ECO Green Apartment will also have vegetation throughout its exterior structure design to reduce carbon footprint emission in the atmosphere. If the study succeeds, then it will help to revolutionize the use of renewable resources in the future. This study utilized a quantitative analysis method of research. It also utilized questionnaires to treat the level of acceptability of ECO Green Residential Apartment in terms of construction materials, procedural methodology, structural design, environmental friendliness, and project demonstration. This study was assessed by5 civil engineers and 15 4th-year Environmental Engineering students. To determine the level of acceptability, the researchers used t-test to test the significance between the assessment of civil engineers and 4th-year Environmental Engineering students at the level of significance of 0.01 and the degree of freedom of 13. The researchers conducted three trials before achieving the final result, and changes had been made to improve the study. The overall weighted means of the study with the two groups of respondents in terms of the aforementioned variables were 3.47 and 3.43 with the verbal interpretation of “acceptable.” Therefore, the difference between the assessments of the two groups of respondents in terms of the aforementioned variables is not significant. The ECO Green Residential Apartment Building needs to follow the safety guidelines for constructing buildings and establishments to improve its safety. The respondents suggested developing and putting an automatic watering system for the vegetation in the entire building. The use of metal containers was also discussed to be used in the structure of the building.
