Abstract

The Philippines is currently experiencing heavy traffic situations nowadays, particularly in EDSA. The problem of heavy traffic in our country has a considerable effect on our economy and individuals. The heavy traffic in EDSA, especially on the sidewalks, may result in dangerous accidents and people’s exposure to climate change. The researchers conducted this study to propose an elevated pathway that will provide alternative sidewalks. This elevated pathway will be connected to malls, existing footbridges, and LRT/MRT stations. Quantitative experimental research was mainly used as a research design for conducting the study, and purposive sampling was utilized to select 5 civil engineers and 14 5th-year Electrical Engineering students of St. John Technological College of the Philippines as respondents who assessed the level of acceptability of the elevated pathway miniature in terms of materials used, wirings installation, measurability, procedures and designs, and accessibility. A questionnaire was constructed by the researchers to collect the data from two groups of respondents to answer the level of acceptability of the project. The elevated footbridge miniature was highly acceptable in terms of materials used, wirings installation, measurability, procedures and designs, and accessibility. Therefore, the difference between the assessments of the two groups of respondents is significant. Civil engineers obtained an overall weighted mean of 3.59, which was interpreted as highly acceptable, with a variance of 0.15. Meanwhile, the 5th-year Electrical Engineering students obtained an overall weighted mean of 3.89, which was interpreted as highly acceptable with a variance of 0.01. Both groups of respondents obtained a t-computed value of 3 and a degree of 17, with a value of 2.567. The t-computed value was greater than the t-critical value. Therefore, the assessments of the two groups of respondents are highly acceptable. For further improvement of this project, the respondents recommended that the project should focus on the electrical materials and the compatibility of the project, connect directly to the outlet as the source of the power of the lights instead of using batteries, and refer to standard measurements and construction.
