TRAFFIC CONGESTION AS PERCEIVED BY MOTORISTS ALONG PASO DE BLAS, VALENZUELA CITY

Abstract

Understanding motorists' perceptions is crucial for shaping effective traffic management strategies and infrastructure development. This study identifies key challenges experienced by motorists, assesses the effectiveness of current traffic management efforts, and provides data-driven recommendations for potential improvements. By exploring motorists' viewpoints and experiences, this study aims to contribute to the development of sustainable and efficient solutions to alleviate traffic congestion. This study utilized a descriptive research design. The population consisted of sixty (60) respondents from Paso De Blas, Valenzuela City, comprising twenty (20) commuters, twenty (20) motorists, and twenty (20) traffic management personnel. Findings indicate that the majority of respondents were males aged 18 to 25. Regarding traffic enforcement, most respondents strongly agreed that traffic personnel provide instructions and signals to mitigate congestion. In terms of signage, respondents affirmed that traffic signs and signals contribute to smooth traffic flow. For traffic management, respondents agreed that observing traffic patterns at different times helps reduce congestion. The primary issue cited was the high volume of vehicles crossing Paso De Blas Road. To address congestion, 59 out of 60 respondents suggested stricter enforcement of vehicle restriction policies based on license plate numbers. Implementing vehicle restrictions based on license plate numbers can regulate the number of vehicles on the road during peak hours, easing congestion. Additionally, a comprehensive road expansion plan, including adjustments to infrastructure, is recommended.
