THE IMPACT OF FIRE VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS IN ENHANCING COMMUNITY RESILIENCE AND DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AT BARANGAY PAYATAS

This study aims to assess how fire volunteer programs improve community resilience and disaster preparedness in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City. Understanding the role of volunteer fire departments is crucial in identifying ways to enhance a community's ability to respond effectively to crises. This research examines whether the Fire Volunteer Program provides essential services and evaluates the capability of fire volunteers to manage disasters that may occur in the community. The study employed a quantitative research design and gathered data from 400 residents of Barangay Payatas, including barangay officials, firefighter leaders, fire volunteers, and citizens. A survey questionnaire was used to assess the impact of the fire volunteer program in strengthening community resilience and disaster preparedness. Findings reveal that most respondents strongly agree with the effectiveness of the fire volunteer program in enhancing disaster preparedness. The data gathered reflects the respondents' understanding of the program’s role in fostering a more resilient and prepared community. Fire volunteers recognize the importance of addressing residents' needs and prioritizing them when possible. It is recommended that training programs be well-maintained, structured, and regularly assessed for improvements. Consistently evaluating emergency response strategies will help identify areas for enhancement and recognize achievements. Additionally, recruiting fire volunteers with strong social skills and a positive attitude toward citizens can further improve the program’s effectiveness. Enhancing the fire volunteer program can contribute to a more efficient disaster response system and increase community satisfaction in Barangay Payatas.
