Abstract

Stage fright is the state of being anxious while on the stage or on a platform. It is a type of anxiety that any individual experiences nowadays. It used to be the first factor affecting the performance of any individual during performance, recital, or even conveying thoughts with people. It is the main cause of failed performances or unexpected mistakes during a performance. Hence, the researchers conducted this study to know the challenges encountered to overcome stage fright. The researchers also wantto assess the relevance of the challenges encountered on overcoming the stage fright of selected Grade 12 Performing Arts students in Bestlink College of the Philippines. This research used quantitative research and descriptive method. A survey questionnaire was administered to 50 Grade 12 Performing Arts students who were chosen using purposive sampling. The survey questionnaire was constructed to determine the effects of stage fright on skill development, financial aspect, and academic performance of the students when performing. The findings of the study revealed that Performing Arts students encountered many problems in terms of skill development, with an average composite weighted mean of 3.9 for male respondents and 3.5 for female respondents, which were interpreted as strongly agree. Moreover, students also faced financial problems, with an average composite weighted mean of 3.9 for male respondents and 3.7 for female respondents, which were interpreted as strongly agree. Another problem that was encountered by the students was that related to academic achievement, with the average composite weighted mean of 4.2 for male respondents and 3.8 for female respondents, which were interpreted as strongly agree. However, continuous improvement was proposed to attain the least agreed interpretation of challenges encountered by the Performing Arts students.
