Abstract

This study investigates the challenges faced by Grade 10 MAPEH teachers in teaching Music and Arts in selected District V schools in Quezon City. By identifying these difficulties, the research aims to provide insights and strategies to help educators overcome obstacles and enhance their teaching effectiveness.  Gardner (2019) highlights that individuals possess multiple intelligences, and each class of students has unique strengths and limitations. Understanding these differences is essential for addressing the challenges teachers encounter in delivering Music and Arts instruction effectively. This study utilized a quantitative research method and a descriptive research design to examine the challenges faced by Grade 10 MAPEH teachers in teaching Music and Arts. The respondents comprised 30 Grade 10 MAPEH teachers from Doña Rosario High School, Sta. Lucia High School, and Novaliches High School.  A survey questionnaire served as the primary data-gathering instrument. The collected data were systematically tallied, tabulated, and analyzed using statistical treatments, including ranking, frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and overall composite mean, to ensure the validity and reliability of the results. The study surveyed Grade 10 MAPEH teachers aged 22 to 42, taking into account their gender and educational attainment, which included bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. All respondents were currently teaching in selected schools within District V, Quezon City.  The findings revealed that respondents acknowledged facing challenges in teaching Music and Arts, particularly in terms of equipment availability, student engagement, and teaching skills. However, they disagreed that factors such as lesson mastery, delivery methods, and personal traits or characteristics significantly affected their teaching performance in Music and Arts. The study suggests that MAPEH teachers adopt innovative instructional approaches to accommodate students' diverse skill levels, interests, and learning styles. To enhance their teaching effectiveness, they should engage in continuous professional development and attend seminars to stay updated on the latest teaching strategies and methodologies. Additionally, teachers must remain dedicated, embrace students' individual traits and abilities, and utilize reliable references to support their lessons.  Furthermore, the study has developed guidelines to help MAPEH teachers address and mitigate the challenges encountered in teaching Music and Arts.
