Abstract

Every community requires effective safety measures, particularly regarding road travel, whether by car or on foot, day or night. The risks associated with these activities underscore the importance of improving road infrastructure to reduce the chances of accidents. In many local neighborhoods, residents often feel uneasy and anxious about the potential for accidents. Abatex Road in San Jose, Rizal, has experienced numerous accidents and fatalities, causing heightened concern among locals about their safety on this road. To address this, the implementation of road safety measures by the Municipal Traffic Management and Development Office (MTMDO) across all roads would greatly ease these fears and improve overall public safety. Traffic accidents are a widespread global issue, leading to countless fatalities and injuries each year, as highlighted by the World Health Organization in 2018. Beyond the loss of life, the impacts of these accidents include decreased societal productivity, increased fuel consumption, higher levels of air pollution, and adverse effects on the economy. This research employs a quantitative research method to collect data from the selected respondents. Additionally, the study utilizes a descriptive research design to observe, describe, and assess the relationship between road hazards and the level of accidents experienced by motorists. A descriptive research design is effective for investigating one or more variables, providing insights into patterns, behaviors, and relationships without manipulating the variables. This approach allows for a thorough understanding of the impact of road hazards on accident rates among motorists. The study found that the respondents strongly agree on the importance of boosting public awareness campaigns to highlight the significance of road safety. They also emphasize the need for investing in road rehabilitation projects and utilizing durable materials to improve road quality, thereby minimizing accidents caused by road surface defects. Additionally, the respondents advocate for the enforcement of strict safety protocols, temporary traffic control measures, and the placement of clear signage in construction zones to ensure safety. These recommendations are viewed as crucial in enhancing road safety and reducing the risk of accidents in the area. The study's findings indicate a clear consensus among respondents on several key points. First, there is widespread agreement on the importance of public awareness campaigns to highlight the need for investing in road rehabilitation projects and using durable materials to improve road quality, which would reduce accidents caused by road surface defects. Additionally, respondents expressed strong support for implementing strict safety protocols, temporary traffic control measures, and clear signage to ensure safety in road construction zones, emphasizing the need for these measures to address road hazards and minimize accidents.
