ASSESSMENT OF REFRESHER TRAINING COURSE FOR FIRE VOLUNTEER IN BARANGAY 176 BAGONG SILANG, CALOOCAN CITY

Fire volunteers provide an essential service to their communities without monetary compensation. They are responsible for preventing and suppressing fires in their local barangay, responding promptly to emergencies when needed. This study assesses the effectiveness of the refresher training course for fire volunteers in Barangay 176 Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, in enhancing their skills and preparedness in fire suppression, first aid, and emergency response. The study utilized a quantitative approach, specifically a descriptive research design, to assess key variables. Through purposive sampling, 25 barangay officials and 25 fire volunteers participated. A survey questionnaire was used as the primary data-gathering instrument. The collected data were analyzed using mean, frequency, percentage, and overall weighted mean to interpret findings effectively. Findings indicate that the majority of respondents "strongly agree" on the effectiveness of the refresher training course. In terms of fire suppression, the training has enhanced compliance with local fire rules and regulations. Regarding first aid and rescue, participants gained the ability to administer basic first aid for common injuries. Additionally, the training improved their ability to respond swiftly to emergency calls from the community. Recommendations include conducting more seminars and workshops to further enhance volunteers’ engagement and preparedness. The study highlights the importance of refresher training courses for barangay fire volunteers. Based on the findings, the following recommendations are proposed: (1) Strengthening volunteers’ interpersonal engagement skills through seminars and workshops; (2) Providing flexible training schedules to accommodate volunteers’ availability; (3) Enhancing communication and cooperation between municipal fire agencies and barangay fire volunteers; (4) Improving training facilities to ensure volunteers are well-equipped; (5) Implementing strict safety protocols and offering comprehensive emergency procedure training. Future researchers are encouraged to conduct further studies to refine and improve training programs.
