Abstract

This study aimed to examine the self-esteem levels of students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Self-esteem may vary among students in different fields due to distinct experiences, perceptions, and expectations related to their chosen disciplines, all of which can affect their overall sense of self-worth. The respondents were selected using stratified random sampling, dividing the population into two strata: BS Tourism Management (BSTM) and BS Business Administration (BSBA). From each stratum, random samples were then taken. The study utilized a comparative cross-sectional research design and applied the ANOVA formula as a statistical treatment to test the differences in self-esteem levels between the two groups. The study revealed differences in confidence regarding values, beliefs, attitudes, skills, and knowledge between Tourism Management students and Business Administration students. Tourism students exhibit a significant contrast in self-esteem compared to their Business Administration counterparts, suggesting that self-esteem issues may be more pronounced among them. Conversely, students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Management may experience increased competition and pressure to excel in a highly competitive and profit-driven industry. This environment can lead to low self-esteem, as young individuals often compare themselves to their peers, leading to feelings of inadequacy or anxiety about their abilities and accomplishments. The outcomes of this study will illuminate the factors contributing to disparities in self-esteem levels among students in different academic disciplines. By understanding these disparities, educators and counselors can develop tailored interventions and support programs to help students enhance their self-esteem and overall well-being. In conclusion, this comparative study of self-esteem levels among students in the BS Tourism Management and BS Business Management programs is vital for understanding the specific challenges and experiences faced by students in various fields of study. By analyzing these differences, we can better support students in achieving their academic and career goals, as well as aid them in building a strong sense of self-esteem and confidence.
