Abstract

This study aims to assess the impact of illegal parking along major roads and side streets in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City. It seeks to understand how illegal parking affects daily life, transportation efficiency, public safety, and the local economy. By gathering perspectives from residents, commuters, and local authorities, the research intends to generate data-driven insights that may guide policy development and improve traffic management strategies to address the issue effectively. A descriptive quantitative research design was employed to assess the effects of illegal parking in the community. The study involved 100 purposively selected respondents: 40 traffic enforcers, 20 drivers, and 40 commuters from Barangay Batasan Hills. Data were collected through structured survey questionnaires, and responses were analyzed using statistical tools to identify trends related to the causes, consequences, and possible solutions to illegal parking. The study focused on the social, safety, and traffic-related dimensions of the issue. The majority of respondents were aged 18–25, with most being male. Many traffic enforcers reported having completed high school and had 9–10 years of service experience. The findings highlighted that illegal parking leads to significant congestion, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries, particularly for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. Respondents agreed that the lack of parking infrastructure, weak enforcement of traffic laws, and low public awareness were the primary contributors to the problem. Illegal parking in Barangay Batasan Hills presents a persistent challenge due to limited traffic regulations, insufficient parking spaces, and inadequate public understanding of parking laws. The study concludes that illegal parking has a detrimental impact on road safety, traffic flow, and overall quality of life in the area. To address these concerns, the study recommends stricter enforcement measures, more frequent traffic inspections, and the imposition of penalties for violators. Additionally, the development of designated parking facilities and the promotion of alternative transportation options, such as public transit and bike lanes, are suggested to ease parking demand and improve traffic conditions.
