AN ASSESMENT ON THE TRAFFIC RULES AND REGULATIONS IMPLEMENTATION IN BARANGAY PASONG TAMO, QUEZON CITY

Abstract

This study assesses the implementation of traffic rules and regulations in Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City, by examining road users’ knowledge and compliance. With increasing congestion and safety concerns in the barangay, understanding motorists’ and enforcers’ familiarity with traffic laws is essential for improving road safety and reducing violations. A qualitative descriptive design is employed, gathering data from fifty participants; forty motorists and ten Traffic and Transport Management Department officers, selected through purposive sampling. A structured questionnaire, validated by experts and administered in person with management permission, collected demographic information and insights on rule awareness, enforcement practices, and encountered traffic problems. Responses were analyzed using frequency distributions to identify predominant issues and compliance gaps. All fifty survey instruments were successfully retrieved. The most frequently reported problem was heavy traffic, leading to delays, frustration, and increased vehicle emissions, cited by 31 respondents (62 percent). The least reported issue was reckless drivers disobeying traffic laws and showing disrespect toward traffic enforcers, noted by 8 respondents (16 percent). These findings highlighted both systemic congestion challenges and the need for stronger adherence to regulations. The results indicated that while traffic enforcers focus on maintaining safety and efficiency through law enforcement and public education, persistent congestion and limited respect for regulations hinder effectiveness. As a result, recommendations include strengthening driver awareness campaigns, enhancing traffic officer visibility at peak hours, and improving infrastructure to ease bottlenecks. Local government units and barangay authorities are urged to collaborate on stricter rule enforcement and community outreach to foster a culture of compliance and ensure safer roads.
