Abstract

The problem is specified toward a proliferation of tuberculosis inside Makati City Jail. This disease is extremely common to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) inside the jail. Tuberculosis is an infectious bacterial disease characterized by the growth of nodules (tubercles) in the tissues, especially in the lungs. The main cause of this disease is the crowded living condition, which is the main problem of most prisons in our country. The reason why this is a preferred study is to provide enough knowledge for PDLs with a devoted education to avoid this kind of disease. Even if only one student would have been able to help us and the way our synthetic solution would have come, the researchers utilized the descriptive method of research. Survey questionnaires were the main instruments for this study, which were designed to have information about the proliferation of tuberculosis inside Makati City Jail. The researcher first used the questionnaire method as the instrument of data collection. Second, the researchers performed oral interviews to gain additional knowledge, especially about the respondents, and emphasize the factors involved. Third, the researchers used focus group discussion, which is another source of important data. Fourth, the researchers used books, magazines, newspapers, Internet sources, and theses to develop the concept and contents of this study. The respondents were described according to different demographic profiles. A total of 45% of the respondents are from the age range of 34–41 years old. A total of 100% of the students were male, 80% were married, and 80% were elementary level. The respondents regarded the proliferation of tuberculosis inside Makati city jail in terms of medication, crowd control, and facilities as “satisfying.” The respondents regarded the common problems encountered by the respondents in preventing the spread of tuberculosis inside Makati City Jail as “moderately serious.” The results of the study can be used in crafting a guide to address the immediate need inside the city jail, which is prevention and medication for the infected PDLs. The results of this study can also be used to improve the facilities and supervision to ensure the health safety of PDLs.
