Abstract

The problem is specified toward the proliferation of tuberculosis inside the Makati City Jail. This disease is extremely known to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) inside the jail. Tuberculosis is an infectious bacterial disease that is characterized by the growth of nodules (tubercles) in the tissues, especially the lungs. The main cause of this disease is crowded living conditions, which is the main problem in most prisons in our country. The reason why this is a preferred study is to provide enough knowledge for the PDLs with devoted education to avoid this kind of disease. Even if only one student would have been able to help us, our synthetic solution would have still come. The researchers utilized a descriptive method of research. It involved the collection of data and answered the questions concerning the current status of the subject of the study. A survey questionnaire was the main instrument for this study, which was designed to obtain information about the proliferation of tuberculosis inside the Makati City Jail. The researchers first used the questionnaire method as the instrument of data collection. The second instrument was an interview; an oral interview was done to gain more knowledge of the respondents and emphasize the factors involved. The third instrument was focus group discussion. The researchers also used books, magazines, newspapers, Internet sources, and previous theses to develop the concept and contents of the study. The respondents were described according to different demographic profiles. A total of 45% of the respondents were from the age range of 34–41 years old. A total of 100% of the respondents were male, 80% were married, and 80% were elementary level. The respondent regarded medication, crowd control, and facilities were “satisfying.” The respondents regarded the common problems encountered by the respondents in the prevention of tuberculosis inside Makati City Jail were regarded as “moderately serious.” The results of the study can be used in crafting a guide for addressing the immediate need inside the city jail, which is prevention and medication for the infected PDL; it can also be used to improve the facilities and supervision to ensure the health safety of the PDL.
