The Effectiveness of Katarungang Pambarangay in Decreasing Court Workload at Barangay 170 Caloocan City

Abstract

The barangay is a sector in our community that oversees the peace and order of their
constituents. It is also their duty to fix any problem, disagreement, or argument that happens in
their barangay that does not need to reach any court, so this is where the Katarungang
Pambarangay began to be formed, this sector of the Barangay is in charge of planning and
making policies that they follow when there is a problem that needs to be resolved between
the two parties. The Katarungang Pambarangay Justice System is designed to increase
access to justice for people who choose not to engage in traditional, adversarial, and
adjudicative court litigation and to enable the swift resolution of minor issues that arise at the
Barangay level. The researcher proposes this study to determine if Katarungang
Pambarangay is effective in decreasing court workloads.

The outcome of the study about The Effectiveness of Katarungang Pambarangay in
decreasing court workload indicates that all of the respondents in our study, including the
Lupon Members and some residents, agree with our conducted study and they are the ones
who gave proof here that the Katarungang Pambarangay is effective to reduce workloads and
cases that are no longer must go to court. The researchers also provide some measures that
can address the problems encountered by the Katarungang Pambarangay in decreasing the
workloads at court.

The study also revealed that the respondents “Strongly agree” that the Katarungang
Pambarangay is effective in decreasing the workloads in court. The study also recommends to
the Lupon members of Barangay 170 and all the residents residing in the Barangay so they
can have background knowledge about the purpose of Katarungang Pambarangay.
Eventually, the researchers proposed an action plan that can innovate the plans and
strategies of Katarungang Pambarangay and be more effective in decreasing workloads at
court.
