Impact of Counseling to Decision-Making Process of Grade 12 Students of Humanities and Social Sciences in Bestlink College of the Philippines: Basis for Proposed Action Plan

Abstract

Researchers assessed the impact of counseling on the decision-making of Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences Strandstudents in Bestlink College of the Philippines. It is correlated to decision-making counseling where it can change the behavior of a person who is in counsel. This study helped students especially those experiencing various problems. Several students are involved in decision-making with their concerns about school stress, family problem, and financial problem. Counselors use critical thinking to provide choices to give the best decision. The researchers used qualitative research with descriptive design to understand the nature, characteristics, components, or aspects of a situation or phenomenon. A survey questionnaire was also used to gather information in selected Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences Strandstudents. The researchers used a random sampling technique to gather the target number of respondents and statistical treatment of data, which are the frequency distribution and percentage, as well as weighted mean. The researchers found that counseling affects the decision-making process of Grade 12 students in terms of relationship conflict, with an average weighted of 4.34 and verbal interpretation of agree. In terms of academic performance, the students were motivated to attend their class with the average weighted mean of 4.16, with the verbal interpretation of agree. In terms of behavior, the students can control their emotions, with an average weighted of 3.68 and the verbal interpretation of agree. Several students had issues that they need to seek council in terms of self-awareness. Students had difficulty in understanding themselves, with an average weighted of 3.58 and the verbal interpretation of agree. In terms of self-acceptance, students compared themselves with others with the verbal interpretation of agree. In terms of decision making, students analyzed one situation with the average weighted mean of 4.88 and the verbal interpretation of agree. The researchers suggested that the student must seek council with a professional guidance counselor to prevent negative thoughts and to know the process and step-by-step in solving a problem and making a solution.
