Effectiveness of Microsoft Office Application to the Services Offered of the Barangay Bahay Pare Meycauayan Bulacan

Abstract

The emergence of software applications has become vital to an organization in the modern
world. Microsoft Office Application has become a standard software application in almost all
businesses globally. The new office of Barangay Bahay Pare was founded in 2010 and is
located in Meycauayan Bulacan. The barangay uses Office 2019 to provide services,
including transactions, record keeping, staff coordination, etc. However, the Barangay
volunteers encountered problems using Microsoft Office applications. Thus, the researchers
conducted this study to determine the problems they encountered in using the said
applications and to provide possible recommendations for improving the service
management of the Barangay.
The findings revealed that the Microsoft Office application used by Barangay Bahay Pare
volunteers is occasionally slow and stops running while launching the apps and saving
documents, which causes delayed transactions. Barangay volunteers use MS Word and MS
Excel for record keeping. However, they sometimes struggle to locate a file due to their
disorganized file storage. Moreover, the Microsoft Office Application is not well responsive
since there are instances when it is difficult to access the shared document. Barangay
volunteers experience difficulty operating complex functions within the Microsoft Office
applications and navigating shortcut keys.
On the basis of such findings, recommendations were made that the Barangay volunteers
must use the updated version of the Microsoft Office Application to ensure smooth operation.
The Barangay volunteers must be knowledgeable about using MS Office Access for their
record keeping. Barangay officials should implement the use of PDF format to access
documents provided by others. The Barangay officials should provide free seminars or
trainings that will enhance the computer skills of the Barangay volunteers. The Barangay
volunteers must update the antivirus software to address computer viruses. In addition, an
action plan was developed in accordance with the findings of the study.
