Abstract

Effective communication is essential for students, as they constantly interact by sharing news, opinions, and information. Strong communication skills enable them to express their thoughts clearly and foster positive connections with peers. In today's world, these skills are more crucial than ever.  The study aims to enhance student's ability to articulate their ideas while gaining a deeper understanding of their peers and future clients. Since we are in the hospitality industry, effective communication is a fundamental skill for career success. Students will learn to present ideas logically, tailor their messages for specific audiences, and communicate with clarity and purpose. This study employs a descriptive research design. The respondents are 100 randomly selected first-year Hospitality Management students from Bestlink College of the Philippines, Main Campus, for the academic year 2023-2024. A simple random sampling method ensures that each student has an equal chance of being selected. To collect accurate and relevant data, the study utilizes a survey questionnaire as the primary research instrument. The study findings indicate that there are 100 student respondents. The majority (81%) fall within the 21–27 age group, while female respondents make up the largest portion at 60%. The two primary communication challenges identified are fear of criticism and lack of confidence. Additionally, most respondents agreed that they struggle to communicate effectively. The results suggest that enhancing and reinforcing the school's guidelines through various programs, activities, and presentations can improve the communication skills of first-year BSHM students at Bestlink College of the Philippines, Main Campus. Recommended initiatives include watching films that model effective conversations, conducting group presentations, fostering open discussions, and providing interactive learning activities. For these efforts to be successful, students must demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and develop their communication skills.
