Abstract

Garbage segregation has become increasingly important as communities strive for more sustainable waste management practices. There is a growing emphasis on separating waste into categories such as recyclables, organic matter, and non-recyclables. Governments worldwide have implemented policies to encourage segregation. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of garbage segregation in promoting cleanliness among Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. This study employed a descriptive quantitative research design and utilized simple random sampling techniques with Slovin’s formula to select 150 Grade 12 HUMSS students from Bestlink College of the Philippines. A survey questionnaire was used as the research instrument, incorporating statistical tools such as frequency and percentage, ranking mean, and the Likert scale to analyze the data and address the research problems. The results indicate that the respondents strongly agree with the efficacy of garbage segregation in promoting cleanliness, particularly in terms of garbage disposal, segregation, and health benefits. Additionally, the benefits of garbage segregation, such as reduced pollution, recycling of materials, and improved cleanliness, were generally rated as "agree" by the respondents. Based on the findings, the following recommendations may be considered: encouraging classmates to participate in garbage segregation, inviting peers to engage in waste separation efforts, and promoting awareness of its benefits to enhance overall cleanliness.
