FACTORS IN NAVIGATING CAREER PATHWAYS IN COLLEGE AS PERCEIVED BY GRADE 12 HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES STUDENTS AT BESTLINK COLLEGE OF THE PHILIPPINES

Abstract

This study explores the factors that influence the career path decisions of Grade 12 Humanities and Social Science students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. It focuses on understanding how personal interests, educational goals, family influences, and exposure to various career opportunities shape their career choices. The aim is to help students make informed decisions that align with their strengths and aspirations. By identifying these influencing factors, the study seeks to provide insights that can guide students in selecting careers that match their abilities and future ambitions. Using a descriptive-quantitative research approach and a basic random sampling technique, 150 Grade 12 Humanities and Social Science students from Bestlink College of the Philippines provided the data. Researchers were able to learn a great deal about the viewpoints and experiences of students by using a survey questionnaire. Participants in the poll were reached directly, and the phrases strongly agree, agree, strongly disagree, and disagree were used to interpret the findings. The results show that several factors, including limited goals, parental involvement, and personal interests, have a significant impact on students' career choices in college. These findings are supported by an overall mean rating of 3.33, indicating strong agreement among participants. Furthermore, respondents expressed strong agreement regarding the advantages of exploring career pathways in college, as evidenced by an overall mean rating of 3.40. To help students explore their interests, mentorship programs with professionals can be established. Additionally, implementing regular career counseling sessions and participating in skill assessment workshops can further assist students in navigating their career paths. The researchers recommend an action plan aimed at enhancing decision-making skills. This comprehensive approach highlights the importance of addressing key factors such as career satisfaction, alignment of skills, and effective career planning to ensure students' success in college and beyond.
